About Spiro Nicolopoulos:

Originally from Okinawa, Japan, Spiro lived in Los Angeles, Ca. before moving to the Asheville, NC area in 2014. His critically acclaimed solo singer-songwriter work has been featured in TV advertising campaigns for Visa, the Olympic Games and more. His music was featured in a variety of films and television series including work for PBS, Court TV, documentary films and radio. Spiro was a Bonnaroo 2006 solo performer. He recorded with Twiddle’s Mihali Savoulidis among many other artists, and has shared line ups with Phil Lesh & Friends, Bright Eyes, Buddy Guy and many of his very favorite artists.  Spiro plays in the local favorite band The Paper Crowns.  He is the bandleader for Asheville’s only Jerry Garcia tribute band the Very Jerry Band and curated Asheville’s first Grateful Dead community jam – Grateful Asheville Music Experience (G.A.M.E.).  He started Asheville Local Live (A.L.L.) Music Radio featuring all local artists from the Western North Carolina region on radio station WPVM.  He is considered one of the favorite lead guitar players in the region.  Some NC area shows he’s performed at include the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam three years in a row, LEAF, Echo Sessions and more.       

Along with performing live music, Spiro taught private guitar lessons from 2001-2014 in California where he met his wife Nicole at work. His proudest achievements include producing fund raising music events providing malaria medication, mosquito nets and medical equipment for people in Tanzania, Tsunami disaster relief for Japan 2011, teaching a blind teenage girl how to play guitar into her career as a performing artist and teaching an 80 year old severely arthritic man how to play open tuning guitar – helping him to become a music team leader in his church. Spiro considers his work with the community a vital part of his mission along with his musical artistry and genuine live performance.
